Thurnscoe Deputy Called to Dying Son

Lawrence Schofield, deputy of Hickleton Main colliery near Mexborough, was one of those called to the assistance of his son, George Lawrence Schofield (24), of Peartree Avenue, Thurnscoe, who was found unconscious near the coal face at the pit to-day.

The young man, haulage hand, had presumably been struck by tubs, and was suffering from severe head injuries.

He was taken to Mexborough Montagu Hospital, where he died.
