Letter Told Wife “Pack,” Wire Said ” Coming Home”

Mrs. D. Markham, of 8 Whin Gardens, Thurnskoe. is at present awaiting a letter from her husband, Mr. Daniel Markham, to explain why, after spending only a few days in North Island, New Zealand, he has, decided to return home.

Had a Job

Mr Markham went out to New Zealand by air on December 8th. He had a job on a fruit farm and a cottage near Hastings awaiting him. It was intended that when he had settled down in his New home, his wife at present teaching at Thurnscoe Junior Girls’ Schoo, and two children Philip (3) and Margaret (10 months) should join him.

On December 18th. Mrs. Markham received a telegram from her husband sailing he was coming home, and the following day, another telegram arrived stating that he was coming bark by sea, and that hisboat would dockĀ  on January 20th.

“Since then, I have heard nothing tram-him to explain why he Is coming home, but I have received

a letter dated December 18th,advising: me to pack. It must have been sent Just before the telegram” Mrs. Markham said.

Mr. Markham, who is 28, was an underground worker at Barnbrough Main Colliery before leaving for New Zealand.

During his Army service he was stationed at Gibraltar. He is the son of Mr and Mrs. T, Markham of 36 Carr Field Lane. Bolton.

Sister in Trinidad

Mrs. Markham is the daughter of Mr, and Mrs. C II Chesney of 38 Carr Head Lane. Bolton. and has an uncle. Mr. Sam Chesney at Wellington. North Island.

Her sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. K. Woods left for Trinidad in December where Mr. Woods has a three years engagement with a large oil company.
