Rochdale Offer To Dennis – Young Bowler Prefers to Earn Place Yorkshire XI.

August 1928

Sheffield Daily Telegraph – Tuesday 21 August 1928

Rochdale Offer To Dennis.

Young Bowler Prefers to Earn Place Yorkshire XI.

Frank Dennis, the promising young fast bowler whom Yorkshire secured from Hickleton Main, near Doncaster, informed our cricket representative yesterday that he has had invitation to apply for the position of match professional to Rochdale, the Lancashire League club, with whom Parkin qualified for Lancashire.

Dennis, however, is very ambitious to earn a regular place in the Yorkshire team and does not propose to take any notice of the invitation. His bowling has improved a great deal in recent matches, and his batting and fielding also show every promise of reaching first-class standard.

Dennis.

A North Riding Cricketer.

Great interest is being taken in the Scarborough district in the appearance of Yorkshire’s young bowler, Dennis, now playing with the County Eleven. He is twenty-one years of age, and has lived at Hutton Buscel for some time, playing for that village’s team in the Beckett League, Scarborough.

His father is resident at Wykeham, near Scarborough, and the son’s prowess in the neighbourhood came

under the notice of George Hirst.

Few districts take a keener interest in cricket than Scarborough and the country round about, and local pride, as well as a sort of paternal interest in the young player will be gratified if he establishes himself as a regular member of the team.

His present professional engagement is with the Hickleton Main Club.
