Soldier – Beattie C. – Accidentally Drowned

Sapper C Beattie

Mrs Beattie, of Hawthorne house, received official information that her husband, Sapper Chris Beattie (Royal Engineers) had been accidentally drowned in Mesopotamia.

Sapper Beattie came to Thurnscoe about nine years ago to work for Mr C Wilson, builder, and he afterwards married his daughter, Miss Myra Wilson.

He joined the Royal Field Artillery in September 1914 and afterwards transferred to the Royal Engineers.

His wife received a letter from him the morning before she received official notice of his death, and in that that he said he was about to go to India for a rest. He leaves two children.
