Modest Thurnscoe Hero

A correspondent who signs himself “One of the Medicals’ (presumably a soldier of the R.A.M.C.), writes from Franca to inform us that Pte. W. Cliff, of Thurnscoe, who is also well-known at South Elmsall, has won the Military Medal, and is keeping the fact to himself

After having received a serious dose of gas he carried on with his duty, bandaging and carrying wounded men from the front line.

Pte. Cliff worked at Hickleton Main before enlistment.

He is married, and his wife resides at the Cross Keys Hotel, Stairfoot. Private Cliff is now in ‘hospital, and has almost recovered from the effects of the gas.
