Corporal Lancaster of Thurnscoe, who has been awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre.

The award is made for special gallantry and devotion to duty.

Corporal Lancaster’s party were caught in a heavy enemy barrage and at great personal risk he and a sergeant conveyed their officer who had been seriously wounded, to the dressing station.

Corporal Lancaster returned into the barrage to search for a comrade
