Sergeant Colin Morrell, (2/1 West Riding Field Company, Royal Engineers, Territorial Force.)

Sergeant Morrell from Thurnscoe, who has just been awarded the D.C.M. for coolness and courage, and conspicuous gallantry during a heavy German attack.

Four of a working party were wounded by a shell, and, no stretcher being available, Sergeant Morrell and Corporal Overall assisted their section officer to carry the wounded men to the dressing station under continuous and heavy shell fire.

Sergeant Morrell, who enlisted in November 1914, was formerly an electrician employed at Hickleton Main.
