Stolen Floor Boards

Contractor’s Loss at Thurnscoe

For stealing two 8 ft. floor boards valued at 4s. from a building site in High Street, Thurnscoe, the property of Walter Trout, of Doncaster, George Warren (27), joiner, of 44, Leslie Street, Goldthorpe, was bound over in £5 for 12 months and placed under the supervision of the Probation Officer .

Inspector Waugh said that at 6.15 p.m. on Thursday, May 4th, Trout sold the defendant two 9 ft. floor boards for 8d. At 6.30 p.m. Trout put two 8 ft. floor boards inside a house in the course of erection, for his own use next morning. When he came at 7.20 on May 5th, the boards were missing He notified the police, who made inquiries and later interviewed the defendant. The boards were found in his bedroom.

Warren, who pleaded guilty, said “It was a foolish thing to do. I am sorry. I bought two pieces of wood but they were not enough so I pinched the other two.”

Inspector Waugh added that the defendant was still bound over for stealing coal on April 1st.

Warren said he had a chance of a job in Cheshire and he had intended to pay for the wood when he got some money.
