Tailpiece
A story is told of a sawny old bachelor in a Yorkshire village who was in love with a lass from a neighbouring hamlet.
He came home one day to his aged mother a black-eyed, spirited old soul whom he maintained, and who saw her home imperilled. It was late one Sunday night after he had been meeting the girl.
He thus briefly described his reception: “Mother w’or set ower t’fire. She clicked up t’ pooaker an cum at ma. An sha ses, “If ivver thoo gans efther that lass ageean ah’ll fell tha’.” “an’,” he added, “ah nivver do’st.”
