The Price of a Village Public House
Mrs Lancaster and sons on Wednesday offered to auction, at Barnsley, the Butchers’ Arms Inn, Thurnscoe, with the stabling, lock-up shop and two cottages, and narrow field from the public house to the Hickleton Road, the site containing five roods.
The lot fell to Messrs Spedding Whitworth (S Whitworth & Co Ltd) of Wath, Brewer, for £4,100.
Thurnscoe is at present a quite place, but a colliery is likely to be opened in the district at no distant date.
