Thurnscoe Council Appointments.

A special meeting of the Thurnscoe Parish Council was held week, under the presidency of the Rev.T. T. Taylor, to fill the vacant positions in connection with the Council.

The whole the appointments, vis., clerk to tbe Council, clerk to the Burial Board, assistant overseer, and collector, have hitherto been, merged in one office, but with the positions now vacant and the importance of urban powers within sight, it was decided to separate the positions.

There were 33 applications for the positions, which together have been worth £92 per annum.

In regard to the clerkship and clerk to the Burial Board, the Council decided that, in response to offer of Messrs. Nicholson and Company, solicitors, Wath, a committee arrange with that firm for those appointments.

The appointment of assistant overseer and collector fell to Mr. R. Higginbottom, Thurnscoe, at a salary of £50 per annum. I

t was understood, however, that these appointments should be temporary, having regard to the expected sanction of urban powers.
