Thurnscoe Fete.
The fayre and fete, organised St. Hilda’s Church, Thurnscoe, was opened in the Hickleton Main cricket field yesterday was a large attendance and Mr. J. Minnikin presided at the opening meeting. The opening ceremony was performed by Mrs. Broomhead, of Thurnscoe Hall.
The programme included a dancing display the pupils of Miss Calladine, of Rotherham ; concert arranged by Miss Eva Rich, of Sheffield; and a display of maypole and sword dancing by local children, trained by Miss Gawthorpe and Miss Davey.
There were also stalls, provided by church organisations, and side shows. Notable of the many interesting features was the baby show, judged by Dr. Malcolm.
In the evening several boxing matches took place between local competitors, and music for the fete, afternoon and evening, was provided by the Hickleton Main Prize Band.
