Thurnscoe Housing Scheme

The Thurnscoe Urban Council’s housing scheme is now fully prepared, and the Council have reached the loan stage, the plans having been approved without amendation by the Local Government Board.

It is proposed to erect 200 houses on a site immediately to the north of “Garden City,” Thurnscoe.

The average cost of house will £600. The land, 19 acres, has been purchased from the Rev. T. Thornley Taylor for £80 an acre, and £30 for minerals.

The smallest type of house will contain a scullery, a living room, and three bedrooms. This type will number 104, and the remainder will be larger, 56 of them semi-detached, the others built blocks of four and six, with a minimum width of feet between blocks.

The scheme has been prepared by the Council’s own surveyor, Mr. T, Bull.

The Council have applied for a loan of £8,000 for street works, sewerage, and sewage disposal, water supply, and land development.
