Thurnscoe Man Who Ignored N.S. Order

Summoned at the Doncaster West Riding Police Court on Tuesday for failing to comply with an instruction issued by a National Service Officer, Alec Eaves, trammer, Thurnscoe, was fined £25, given 14 days to find the money, or three months imprisonment in default.

Mr. W. L. Crawford, for the prosecution, said Eaves was directed to start work as a trammer at Dearne Valley Colliery. Between September 1941 and March 1942, out of 170 available working days he was absent 30 times through sickness and 63 without reason. This represented 31 per cent. absenteeism.

Eaves told the magistrates he wanted to join the Army.
