Thurnscoe Newsagent is Now on National Council

Well-known Thurnscoe newsagent, Mr. S. Oughton, 39, Chapel Street, has been elected Yorkshire’s representative on the National Council of the Federation of Retail Newsagents. Mr. Oughton, aged 43, who has been a newsagent for 13 years, was elected at the annual meeting of the Yorkshire District Council held in Leeds.

He is Manager of two shops in Thurnscoe, one in Chapel Street, the other on Houghton Road, owned by his father-in-law, Mr. H. Hollingsworth.  Mr. Oughton, an old boy of Barnsley Grammar School, has previously been president of the National Federation, and has recently completed his year of office as President of the Yorkshire District Council.

He is married and his two children, Valerie and Cynthia, both of whom attend Wath Grammar School, following in the footsteps of their mother, Mrs D Oughton.
