A Model Canteen

Thurnscoe School Service Commended

Special mention of the high standard maintained by the school canteen staff in the preparation and service of school meals was made by the head teachers of Thurnscoe Houghton Road Junior School in their reports to Dearne Primary School Managers on Friday.

“Despite difficulties in meat supplies felt by all classes of the community Miss Shephard and her staff maintain a remarkably high standard in the preparation and service of school meals,” wrote Mr. W. E. Hill (Boys’ Department Headmaster) and “meals have remained consistently good. Miss Shephard gives the .utmost co-operation always and I believe she feels rewarded when she sees the children really do enjoy dinner,” wrote Miss H. Lewens (Girls’ Department Headmistress). Miss Lewens added that at Christmas Miss Shephard and the canteen staff had voluntarily made up dry goods and presented the children with “a wonderful tea.”

Mr. E. Davis, commented on the cleanliness and orderliness of the kitchens and canteen. “If you went Into a first-class hotel nothing could be served better or more efficiently, he said.
