Thurnscoe Scouts New Home
A Movement with Many Friends
The opening of the new headquarters of the 20th Doncaster (Thurnscoe Paganels) troop of Boy Scouts took place on Saturday.
The hut, which is 60’ x 15’ broad was purchased at Bawtry last June, and the boys, with professional help in bricklaying, have erected it themselves.
The troop commenced about four years ago with 12 members and has been very successful. The Scoutmaster is Miss G Littlechild (photo), who has done much for the welfare of the troop.
Mr J Millikin, the general manager of the Hickleton Main Colliery, performed the opening ceremony. He referred to the hard work the boys are done, and thanked all were help the troop.
The Urban Council had very kindly assisted them with the laying on of the light and water. The hut itself was a splendid example of the boy’s work. They would be able to work there for their own education and for the good of others.
The Scout movement was not military and tended to make the lads better citizens. He hoped parents would encourage their boys to join the movement, which was trying to build up character.
