Thurnscoe Singer Seeks ITV Fame next week

Thurnscoe singer, George Miller, will be making his second second television appearance on Wednesday, when he competes in the semi-final of the “Find the Singer” contest televised from London  Hammersmith Palais in the popular weekly Lou Preager show, Palais Party”,

Readers will recall that George, 5 Lancaster Street, Thurnscoe won his heat in May.

The reward for all heat winners is a recording test, and every contestant has a chance of rising to fame, as a well known impressario follows the contest and is offering a booking to any singer who, in his opinion, shows promise.

There is also £100 in prize money, a half of which will go to the ultimate winner of the competition. George (stage name, Paul Ashwood), told the “South Yorkshire Times” this week how much he appreciated the support he had received from local people who had voted for him. “I am very grateful Indeed” he said. Neighbours sent him a telegram of good wishes while he was in London.

Because of the television contest, George, a well known amateur operatic Society principal, is not taking part in any current presentations.

His singing career began with Thurnscoe Male Voice Choir and he sang his first solo at Elsecar when

the choir visited a chapel there.

Popular music enthusiasts will be interested to learn that in the semi- final George will sing the new ballad “Afraid “. which he sang when he won his heat three weeks ago.
