Wife’s Shocking Discovery

On Wednesday, about 7-30am, Mrs. Barstow, of 4, Wynn View, Thurnscoe, was horrified to discover her husband Joseph Barstow, aged 65, unemployed miner, lying dead in the lavatory attached to the house with a wound to his throat.

He had been employed for 30 years at the Hickleton Main Colliery, and was among a large number of men dismissed owing to bad trade last August.  He was in good health and apart from unemployment appeared to be in no trouble.

He leaves a widow, two sons and a daughter.

An inquest will be held to-day.
