Presumed Dead

Mr. and Mrs. S. Hirst of 11, Windsor Square, Thurnscoe East, whose son, Spr. F. Hirst was reported missing on June 9th of this year, in the invasion of Normandy, have now received official information that he is presumed dead.

Spr. Hirst, who was 33, had served four years in the Forces, and had travelled in Ireland, Scotland and Wales, instructing on explosives before going abroad.

He was a keen billiards player, and was a member of the Thurnscoe Institute, where he won the billiards and snooker handicaps before the war.  He was employed by Wolverhampton Corporation prior to joining up.
