Mr. H. Garwood was born at Thurnscoe in 1893 and has lived there the whole of his life. He commenced work at the age of 13 at Hickleton Main, and has worked his way up to the office staff.

He is interested in all kinds of sports and has been a playing member of the Hickleton Main club and the former Thurnscoe Park Avenue F.C. He has been connected with the Hickleton Main Cricket Club for over 25 years and has a “Times” Cup medal won in 1920, the year of the competition’s inauguration, when Hickleton made the record score of 396, against their old rivals, Wath. He is now vice-president of the club and a member of the Selection committee.

He has been a member of the Urban Council for six years and serves on the Tramways, Highways, Housing, General Purposes and Public Health committees, and the Education Sub-Committee.
