Joe Humphries, the Derbyshire cricketer, is also a great favourite at Hickleton where he has played for the colliery team there on many occasions.
He formerly worked down the Hickleton Main Colliery. His parents reside at Thurnscoe.
On Monday night at the Butchers’ Arms, Thurnscoe, he was the recipient of a beautiful dressing-case, subscribed for by his many friends of the village, and given him in recognition of his selection as England’s wicket-keeper, and as tribute of bis connection with the local club.
