Mr. F. Cutts, of 1, Spalton Road, Parkgate, the secretary of the Mexborough Montague Hospital Sports and Entertainments Committee, has been appointed secretary of the newly-formed Mexborough and District Football Association, Mr. G. W. Johnson having resigned.
The Swinton Garage and Motor Engineering Co., Ltd., having disposed of a large quantity of their surplus cars, etc., in order to make room for more extensive workshops, are now in a position to undertake all repairs to any make of motor vehicle, also machinery of any description. Mr. Spencer Baker, solicitor, of Doncaster, has been appointed Clerk to the Conisborough Urban Council, at a salary of £200 per annum, in succession to Mr. H. M. Marshall, who has resigned.
A police constable has to regulate the queue of the tramcars on the Mexborough and Swinton, and Dalton routes, at the terminus in Frederick Street, Rotherham, on Saturday evenings.
The Board of Education and the West Riding Education Committee are protesting that permission to withdraw children from school before the end of the term in which they reach the age of 14 is being too freely given by district committees.
The new tennis courts and bowling greens provided under the Miners’ Welfare Scheme for the Mexborough Athletic Club will be formally opened on Saturday week, June 28, concerning which further details will be given next week.
The assassination took place, two years ago to-morrow (Sunday), of Field Marshal Sir Henry Wilson, M.P., by two members of the Irish Republican Army, named James O’Brien and James Connolly.
The management of the Wath Main Colliery, after consultation with the men’s delegates, have decided to discontinue making announcements of holidays by the old method of chalking on the pavement. Blackboards are to be used for the purpose.
