Mission Minister’s Change

After five years as superintendent of the South Yorkshire Coalfield’s mission, the Rev William Henderson is leaving Thurnscoe for the Sheffield North district.

The appointment was made last week at the annual conference when the Methodist Home Mission Committee decided to place him in charge of the Burngreave Road, Methodist Church Sheffield. He will not be leaving Thurnscoe, however until the end of August. The Rev Henderson’s six years in this district had been strenuous ones and under his leadership the Coalfield Mission has prospered – both spiritually and materially.

He has made many friends in this district, but the nearness of the new post does not make the parting seem so sudden.

His place is to be taken by the Rev John Matthewman, of the Isle of Wight, who will come to Thurnscoe during the first week of September.
