Sailor’s Escape

One of the survivors of a warship sunk while on convoy escort duty, Petty Officer Robert Hall, (23), second son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Hall, of 8, Taylor Street, Thurnscoe, is back home again.

The survivors were picked up by another ship in the convoy and taken to port.

Petty Officer Hall joined the Navy seven years ago last weekend and has served in Mediterranean and Chinese waters, as well being on convoy work.

He was formerly employed underground at Houghton Main Colliery.
