Salvation Army Dedication in Uganda

May 1967

South Yorkshire Times May 13, 1967

The photograph shows Mr and Mrs David E Smith, formerly of Thurnscoe and Goldthorpe, at the dedication of their son Andrew by Brig Holland (Chief Secretary of the Salvation Army in East Africa) residing in Nairobi, who made at 400 mile journey to perform the ceremony in the new Salvation Army Hall in Toronto, Uganda.

The child was the first baby to be dedicated in the Hall.

Before going to Kenya, Mr Smith was a member of Goldthorpe S.A. Band, and Mr Smith was connected with the Corps as a member of the songsters and first Captain of Goldthorpe Salvation Army Girl Guides.

Both she and her husband are looking forward to renewing old friendships when they return in August.
