Killed In Action

Mrs. J. W. Crackles widow of Mr. Crackles of 3 Lidgett Lane, Thurnscoe East, has received news that her son, Pte. Jack Crackles (32), was killed in action in Italy on January 22nd.

Born in Thurnscoe, Pte. Crackles attended the Thurnscoe Council School and later was employed at Hickleton Main Colliery until the outbreak of war.

He served in Iraq and Persia and later took part in the North Africa campaign, being wounded last July in Sicily.

He leaves a wife and son who reside with his wife’s parents at Market Harborough, Leicestershire.
