Headmaster’s Promotion

Mr. J. Hughes, of “Glentworth,” High Street, Thurnscoe, who, before taking a commission in in the R.A.S.C. in April last, was for ten years headmaster of Thurnscoe Boys’ School, has recently been promoted captain and placed in charge of a Command Supply Depot of Eastern Command.

As 2nd Lieut. Hughes, he started training for the supply branch of the R A.S.C. last April, and subsequently became Assistant Supply Officer at a large Command Supply Depot. A staff appointment at Eastern Command H.Q followed, and more recently his captaincy.

Educated at King James VI Grammar School. Knaresborough, and Ilkley Grammar School, Captain Hughes served with the K.0.Y.L.I. in the last war, and qualifying as pilot in the R.F.C., became a night flying navigational specialist.

He has one brother, Major A. E. Hughes, serving in this war.

He will resume his position at Thurnscoe Boys’ School after the war.
