Major Dies of Wounds

Major Sydney Francis Rayner (29), who died of wounds in Italy on May 21, was the son of Mrs ARayner and the late Mr H Rayner of Luton.

His wife and baby son reside at 57, Windsor Street, Thurnscoe East.

Joining the Army 12 years ago, Major Rayner rose from the ranks to the position he held at the time of his death.

He was married five years ago, and had been serving abroad since January 1943.
