Soldiers – Devonport, Jack and Stan – On Following Soil

Two Thurnscoe brothers, sons of Mr and Mrs S Devonport, of 21, Lancaster Street, are in the army.

Jack, who is 24, is a corporal and is a prisoner of war in Germany. He had served five years in the West Yorkshire Regiment, and before the war so service in India.

Stanley is a year younger and served with the same regiment as his brother for four years. He served in the Palestine campaign, and is now serving abroad. Both Jack and Stanley Wright cheerful letters home, and Stanley looks forward to the “South Yorkshire Times” each week.
