Brothers In Forces
Three brothers of a well-known Thurnscoe family are in the Forces. They are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. G. Jackson, 11, Garden Street, Thurnscoe.
The eldest, Driver Sidney Jackson (32) is with the Australian Army Service Corps in Australia and joined up two years ago. He went to Australia 15 years ago and has done very well as a dairy farmer He married an Australian girl. Before leaving for Australia, he was employed at Hickleton Main Colliery B.S.M.
Roy Jackson (30), joined the R.A. 12 years ago He was at Dunkirk and in the Madagascar campaign, going from there to India, where he is now stationed. He also was employed at Hickleton Main Colliery before enlistment.
The younger brother, Driver Eric Jackson (21) is in the R.A. and in India, in the same battery as his brother, Roy. He joined the Forces in June, 1939. Both brothers like the life in India. Eric also worked at Hickleton Main. Another well known “member of the family,” an Alsatian dog, owned and trained by Mr. Jackson, is in the Forces, joining the American Army last July, where she is doing a good job of work.
