Thompson Wins again
Clear Points Verdict over Belgium Champion

Once again Billy Thompson (Thurnscoe) has beaten the lightweight champion of Belgium, Joseph Preys. Last night at St James’s Hall, Newcastle, he won clearly on points over 10 hard fought rounds.

The Yorkshire boy was always on the attack, and if he did not have the best of matters at long range, you’re certainly the master of inside work.

Preys left hand was the better of the two, being more solid, but Thompson was always dangerous with the right hand that twice went near to ending the fight within the distance. Thompson, 2 ¼ pounds heavier than Preys carries a heavy punch but was inclined to hit with your brother at times.

Preys is a very awkward opponent to hit with his jaw tucked away behind his shoulder and his gloves held high, but Thompson was always trying for a knockout and almost succeeded with punches that went just to high on the jaw.

Preys fought very hard to reverse the previous points decision, but he was always fighting a losing battle against a determined man who never stopped attacking.
