Trooper Eric Miles, of “C” Squadron 13/18 Hussars, is carrying out an emergency two months tour in Aden.

In more peaceful moments Eric is an armoured car driver but since his arrival in Aden he has had to carry out the role of an infantry man on Internal Security duties.

Eric, whose mother, Mrs A Miles, lives at 19, Lindley Crescent, Thurnscoe, is not unduly perturbed. From the cold of an English winter, Eric was flown out at two weeks notice to the sweltering heat of Aden as part of a force assigned to assist in the protection of the airfield at RAF Kormaksar.

Before his arrival in Aden he served for three years in Germany.
