South Yorkshire Times – Saturday 10 January 1942.

Missing Presumed Killed

Mr. and Mrs. E. Hill, of 24, Quarry Hill Road, received official intimation from the Admiralty last week that their only son, Able Seaman Roy Hill (19), had been reported missing, presumed killed on active service. He had been in the Navy for just over a year before which he was employed by a Swinton plumber.

Born at Thurnscoe, he attended Wath Park Road School.

A.B. Hill was in at the sinking of the “Bismarck.”

Mrs. Hill told the “Times” that her son had a friend from Hoyland who was in the same ship and she is anxious to get in touch with the parents of this man.

Hill’s father served in the Coldstream Guards in the last war. Mr. and Mrs. Hill are grateful to all friends and neighbours for their messages of sympathy.
