Killed In France
News has been received that Private John Gethen was killed in action in France on August 27th.
Pte. Gethen was the son of Mrs. E. Gethen and the late Mr. H. Gethen, of 10 Houghton Road, Thurnscoe. He was only 18 years old and had been in the Forces for seven months.
Before joining up he was employed at the Barnsley Co-operative Diary and was a well-known member of the Radio Five Dance Band.
